Drawing inspiration from the bold and minimal comes Urban Road’s dynamic new collection for Autumn Winter 2018 – Continuum.

A nod to the retrospective, Urban Road’s latest collection is their own unique spin on minimalism - a celebration of simple lines and forms, soft muted colour palettes and organic curves. Yet, as the collection progresses, it dares to dip its toes into much edgier waters with dark, moody subject matter and bold photographic imagery, culminating in a continuous sequence of artworks that are at times not perceivably different, yet stunningly diverse – a Continuum.

Our Creative Director, Suzie Atkin, was really inspired by the mid-century modern design movement - very soft and minimal, with lots of subtle geometric references. The collection feels almost like “easy listening” artwork. There’s a really big focus on the exploration of forms, shapes and textures, but the muted colour palette keeps it versatile and adaptable. When creating the abstract artwork in particular, Suzie was inspired by artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Victor Pasmore, Jean Arp and Laszlo Moholy-Nagy. Suzie's favourites of the abstract-minimal artworks are 'Solace' and 'Succor'. With their muted pink and beige colour palette, layered shapes, textures and lines, this artwork pair perfectly emphasises the inspiration at the heart of Continuum - a very Urban Road approach to minimalism.

We also really explored the beautiful intricacies of oil-painting in this collection - it adds so much depth and mood to what is, essentially, very simple subject matter - cropped close-ups of florals and feathers contrasted against dark, moody backgrounds. 'Fully Fledged' is another favourite for Suzie, a captivating statement piece depicting a hawk in flight. Along with the oil-painted feathers, birds and florals, Continuum also showcases beautifully detailed photography featuring close-ups of jewel-toned feathers and soft florals on black backgrounds. 'Hopeful I' and 'Hopeful II' are a pair of photographic prints featuring everyone's favourite flower of the moment - peonies. This artwork pair is perfect for adding a bit of romance and drama to your space.

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of Continuum is the hand-curated selection of black and white photographic images. If you're looking for a bold, statement image for your space, then you really can't go wrong. Our standout piece? 'Linda Llama'. A vintage photograph of Linda the Llama celebrity taking a drive through Times Square in the 50's. It's sassy and playful in just the right measure. We're so excited about heading into some uncharted territory with these all of these photographic artworks and can't wait to see them styled in our customer's homes.

Along with the artwork, Continuum also introduces a new range of cushions - one new design, and one updated design - available in six different colour options that tie in perfectly with the artwork collection. These luxuriously soft, yet durable, velvet cushions are available in a 65x65cm oversized velvet design, or a 45cm diameter round tufted cushion, with a fabric covered button, sitting at approximately 9cm thick. Both designs come with colour-blocked piping, adding a touch of retro-inspired charm, and a beautiful finish to the cushions.
